Sailboats slipping across the brilliant blue waters of Lake Ontario. Children building sandcastles on the quiet beaches. An ice cold lemonade after a round of golf. The sound of cross-country skis gliding across the forest floor.

The venerable town of Cobourg is blessed with the architectural charms of small town Ontario. The surrounding landscape provides recreation and lifestyle opportunities that are definitely 21st century. This is a town where culture and sophistication have long been part of the social fabric...where arts, theatre, and music are an integral part of life.

In the late 18th century, Cobourg was once considered a stopover for pioneers on their way to discovering the rest of Upper Canada. The beautiful Cobourg shoreline offered a perfect haven and a promising harbour. Eventually the stream fed mills enticed the many Loyalists and pioneers to put down roots.

Covered with lush farms and orchards, the Cobourg area became a summer playground for hundreds of wealthy Americans by the mid 19th century. As the popularity of Cobourg's shores increased, streets were soon lined with expensive estates and mansions, some of which can still be seen today.

Over time the steam ship carrying vacationers and supplies ended its daily trips to and from the U.S., but Cobourg and its harbour kept growing and today it still retains its quaint elegance and quality living.
